Medicare Advantage Plans (Part C)

Medicare Advantage Plans (Part C) , are often referred to as “Part C” or “MA plans” and are offered by private companies approved by Medicare. If you join an MA plan, you still have Medicare. The difference is you will get your Part A and Part B coverage thru the MA plan and not Original Medicare.

MA plans cover all Medicare services and may offer extra coverage, like vision, hearing and dental coverage.

These MA plans must follow the rules set by Medicare, although each MA plan can differ as far as different plan rules and out of pocket costs. These plans can change year to year.

Most MA plans include prescription drug program, although there are some that don’t. If they don’t you can add a separate prescription drug plan.

To join an MA Plan:

  • You need to reside in the service area of the plan
  • You must have Medicare Part A and Part B
  • You must not have End Stage Renal Disease
